“I Love it When a Plan Comes Together”
As George Peppard would say in the role of Hannibal Smith at least once in every episode of The A Team, “I love it when a plan comes together!”
That’s an apt description of what happened at Skyline Church this past weekend (July 26-28, 2013) when plans for the Sierra Leone fundraiser Friday night, the church work day Saturday, Rev. Sally Juarez’s sermon on her trip to Colombia Sunday morning and the after-worship walk in Knowland Park Sunday afternoon bore exquisite fruit.
The Sierra Leone dinner raised more than $1600 for the village school in Makomray. Steve and Sentho’s presentation reminded us of all that’s been accomplished and the needs of the school going forward.
On Saturday, all the church windows were washed and cleaned, energy efficient light bulbs were replaced in the church office and other locations around the campus, tables were scrubbed clean, the gardens were lovingly tended.
Sunday morning, Sally’s presentation showed us in words and pictures both the despair and the hope affecting the people of Colombia and inspired us, in the words of the prophet Micah, to “do justice” whenever and wherever we can. Nila’s beautiful altar arrangement and Joshua’s inspiring offertory of “Colombia Tierra Queirda” were the perfect additions to the service.
Although I wasn’t able to join the hikers, I trust a good time was had by all, and people got to see first hand how the expansion of the Oakland Zoo threatens the beauty and the environment of the parklands.
Kudos to all who helped plan all of these events and grateful thanks to all who participated, who graced us with the gift of your presence and donations. It was indeed a busy and glorious weekend of activity. In the afterglow of work well done, may you find rest, re-creation an inspiration to continue your ministry and mission here and beyond.
